charameiOkay, so I've finally managed to watch last week's Sarah Jane Adventures. And something kind of jumped at me about Darkening.
He's an alien who looks human, but we're never told his species.
He cobbles together a transdimensional whatchamecallit out of junk. Sarah-Jane specifically identifies this with the TARDIS.
He's a genius scientist.
His name is clearly symbolic rather than genuine.
Oh, and he also happens to look a little like that other great immortality-seeker of the Whoniverse, the fourth Lord Borusa.
I can't help but be really, really suspicious that Darkening is a Time Lord, probably a renegade. Being mostly trapped in an alternate dimension or at a different frequency (which aren't conventionally the same thing, whatever the writers think) would probably be sufficient to upset the Doctor's telepathic connection with him, thus preserving the Great Protagonistic Emoness... and to be honest, I'm not even convinced that the Doctor's reflex link is working nowadays, given his apparent lack of knowledge that Jenny is out there.
Can somebody take Darkening's pulse, please? For science?
