...but still not really in a reviewing mood. IMO, The Eleventh Hour was good - but it had too much work to do to spare time on being brilliant. I fully expect that to change now that we're over the initial hurdles of 'This is the Doctor, this is the companion, this is the companion's family, this is the arc plot, this is the alien threatening the world and this is the brand spanking new TARDIS'.

On the other hand, some things bear mention, and some are really bugging me.

  • Continuity error! Ten was not wearing that tie when he regenerated, and I really doubt he nipped off to change it while the TARDIS was crashing. This took me about thirty seconds to confirm with iPlayer. Wardrobe department, I'm ashamed of you.

  • I understand the subtle joke with the St John's Cross sticker on the TARDIS, but I don't grok it. It just looks... off.

  • CUSTARDSTACHE! *loves*

  • I have a vague hope of seeing Eleven eating his peas with honey in the future. The weird food is staying, right? Right?

  • Okay, so... I wasn't terribly keen on the new TARDIS interior when I saw the promotional stills, and hoped it would look better with a mobile camera. It doesn't: if anything, it looks worse. It's all sharp angles and very busy. However, the increased size and multiple levels should make for some amazing scenes in the future.

  • And the idea that the TARDIS incorporated some of that crap - typewriter, taps - in its initial regeneration, rather than them being cobbled-together spare parts, is wonderful.

  • The new theme music is GODAWFUL. I'm not sold on the storm-cloudy Vortex, either.

  • I still love the new logo, though.

  • "The swimming pool was in the library." I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if a million bookworms cried out and were suddenly silenced.

  • I've been watching Hartnell all week, and my goodness but the graphics have improved nowadays.

  • "I'm Doctor." And I'm wondering what the definite article ever did to Steven Moffat.

  • I like the fact that we're not given exact dates, or even ages. They tend to get in the way. And the setting and plot are so deliberately timeless. It reminded me of 2001 Randall and Hopkirk, with Jeff's 1950's-inspired costumes (and Marty's hats!), the old car, and yet such modern horror. Win.

  • That new photographic memory camera trick is amazing - as a viewer, I love it.

As a prose and aspiring audio writer, however, I am officially tearing my hair out over it.

  • Random other Doctors and aliens! So happy to see some of the old rubber suits in there with the New Who monsters - Rusty never did that, and it always pissed me off.

Also, gratuitous Silurian shot! Rubber-suited Silurians, for probably the last time before we see the new, upgraded ones!

  • Aw. Amy's getting married, if the Doctor can get her back on time (somewhere, Tegan is laughing). Nice touch.

  • My, but Moffat likes the Time Traveller's Wife setup, doesn't he?

  • More please?

Kind of makes me wish I didn't RP on Saturdays.
