Why do they do it? Why, why?
Ahem.
Missed a day yesterday; no real excuse, except a lack of being at a computer. So I guess that's two today?
They split up eighteen months ago.
My mum is still the person I want to be when I grow up. She was a forensic scientist; she's now left the Forensic Science Service to set up a company doing work restructuring, which is about the only thing she does that bores me. She's the reason I find geology fascinating: she used to do crystal-growing experiments with me when I was very small (copper sulphate is pretty), and took me around the Natural History Museum a lot. The geological galleries are still some of my favourite places in the world to be.
She sews, she decorates cakes. She's currently doing a project of going through the Wedgewood Archive and trying to recreate the formulae that he used for his secret paint colours using samples of existing pots. Apparently nobody's done this kind of forensic archaeology on them before, which is astounding in itself.
She can make anything interesting, I swear.
My dad isn't a bad person, far from it, but he's close-minded, impossible to talk to, has a hairstring trigger some days and is, frankly, better at scaring or annoying me than being a parent. I'm still living with him; I would like this situation to change as soon as possible.
I suspect I inherited a lot of my manner from him, which worries me a lot.
I'm actually eating better this week than I have in ages: I've finally worked out how to reconcile my godawfully slow breakfasting habits with the need to get to work on time. Basically, I take finger-cereal and eat it there over the course of the morning. Why didn't I think of this before?
Breakfast: Raisin wheat thingies. They're Kellogg's, so they're more wheat than raisin; I'll start buying real ones as soon as this pack's finished.
Lunch: Those mini-Scotch eggs. An entire packet. Yes, that was it; I don't get hungry very much or very often. And half a chocolate brownie (a big brownie: half is easily a portion, so I and a firend split between us when we get one).
Tea: Well, if buttercream counts, anyway. I made cupcakes last week and made waaaay too much buttercream, so I've been dipping into the bowl a little every day. Only a very small amount. Two teaspoons?
Dinner: I probably won't have dinner, which is pretty normal for me. Like I said, I don't get hungry much. If I do, it'll be some form of ravioli.
